However, many people and companies aren't using it very effectively. This article will show you some good ways to use the two biggest Social Networks (Facebook and Twitter) as well as give you some bonus tips on other ways you can connect with people online. I will be using the travel industry as an example but nearly everything I suggest can be applied to multiple industries and niches. [...]

Social Sites are the best and highly effective way to promote your site. It can increase traffic by many folds. But Still very few people in the world of Internet marketing are using it effectively. We will try to explain here what could be the reason for that and how you can start doing Social Media Optimization.

These days Facebook is the best way to reach and extend traffic for your website. It is the most popular Social Networking site in the world. You must a have a Facebook page for your Blog, and set it up in a way that all new post automatically appear on the Page of your Blog. Design a custom Landing page on your Facebook page. Don’t let user land by default on Wall of your page. This is one of the factor people start liking your page more frequently than any other.

Once you done setting up start promoting it using various means. You must add a Facebook like box on Your Website or Blog. You can start sending mails or Facebook message to your friends and family and they will definitely like the page if it interests them.

You should also have some Content on your facebook page, only attracting people is not enough, You need to keep busy on your page. If they remain there they will bring more people around. It is very important factor.

After facebook, next best social media tool is Twitter. You must create a dedicated twitter handle for your blog which constantly post updates and new post about your blog. Start finding people with similar interest and add them. Search for relevant hastags and participate in active discussion on the topics of your blog.

Basic idea is build relationship with those who have a good number of follower and it will eventually give you some more followers which will result in good traffic.

If you already done these steps then you should start using forums now. Forums are another good way of interacting people and then making them aware of your websites. You should find active forums in your niche and then post there some updates on your blogs. Not only your blogs but you should also look for other ongoing discussion otherwise you might get marked as spammer and result in account deactivation.

Hope these tips will help you out in getting some good number of visitors for you Blogs/ Sites.

Twitter has developed into more than just an instant messaging service. Being a social networking site, it has become an ideal customer service tool. As communications is a key feature, marketing products and services via twitter could be the secret to a marketer’s success. With viral marketing being the buzzword in marketing circles, Twitter can be exploited to its full potential as a viral marketing tool. The very viral nature of Twitter makes it an ideal tool to use.

The benefits

An increasing number of businesses have turned to Twitter for marketing support. Large corporations like Intel, and Amazon also send tweets to engage with other users and monitor conversations about their products. The notion of getting, and staying involved, with clients can be better fulfilled by using twitter. Promoting deals and discounts can be easily achieved in a couple of tweets. Since tweeters are allowed to re-tweet, your network can grow phenomenally in a couple of tweets so each time you need to put out some ‘breaking’ news about your product or service, you can be sure it will reach a large following. Responding to queries and monitoring requests is easily accomplished with Twitter. Customers appreciate early responses to their issues and this helps in relationship building and is a great way to lend credibility to your brand.

Starting to twit

Many have not been sold on the idea of Twitter being used as a marketing tool. However, over time, you will realize that it has some value, not only for marketing but PR as well. For a start, sign up and create a profile. Once you are through with this, get down to writing some updates about your product or service. You need to do that within 140 characters. You don’t need to be Tennyson or a Wordsworth, just be clear and brief. A link to your message will get tweeters interested in your product. If your link has a long URL, it won’t leave much space for your message. The best thing is to use www.tinyURL.com to shorten the link. This works well with Twitter.

Make friends and create a following

Making friends on Twitter will help you gather a large following. You will come across a Twitter box on blogs, Facebook profiles, and a host of other sites. Click on the box to view the profile of the user and then click on the ‘Follow’ button. This will add you to his list of followers, who in turn will reciprocate and follow you back. What a great way to increase your network!

PR at work

What people say about you, your company, or brand is important. Twitterers, i.e. people that tweet, will definitely tweet about your company or product. It is easy to monitor their conversations even if you aren’t a follower yet. Twitter’s search engine will help you to bring up a list of conversations about your product or service. You can start following all the people talking about you and start to follow them too.

To conclude, it is all a matter of testing the waters with Twitter. Several successful Twitterers use it for marketing themselves, their products, or services. The potential is huge and is definitely worth a shot. Many people say, ‘Twitter is what you make of it’. So go ahead and make a marketing success out of it.

Chances are that you have already implemented some strategies to generate traffic to your website, but if you’re not getting the volume of traffic that you had anticipated, you may be considering bringing in a “hired gun” (an expert) to boost your numbers. Before you take that plunge, let’s look at some of the reasons that you might not be getting as many visitors to your website as you’d like.

Marketing Plan – Have you Got One?

Marketing is a time-consumptive activity – that’s a given. However, if you want traffic, you’re going to have to work for it. Unlike the movie Field of Dreams, the “if we build it they will come” mentality will get you basically nowhere when it comes to traffic generation for your website. There are literally billions of websites on the Internet, so there’s a slim chance anyone will find yours unless you tell them about it – or have great SEO skills and tons of quality backlinks to support your wishes.

If traffic isn’t coming – drag them in! Your marketing plan should have sound lines of attack that will keep a steady flow of traffic coming your way. A good marketing campaign might include PPC campaigns, email marketing, article marketing, social networking, and more.

Run Your Stats

Look at your website statistics. Are your links working for you? How much traffic is coming to your website from your affiliated links? It may be the time to consider a new linking campaign in order to find the quality and quantity of traffic that you are reaching for. Are you actively posting in forums, and if so, are the forums as active as they were when you registered with them? If not, find some new online communities to join in order to send new traffic your way.

Are you Spending Your Time Wisely?

Most of your time should be spent marketing the website that you have built and generating traffic for it. If you’re doing good as far as traffic goes for awhile and then feeling confident and “slacking” off, then you’ll find your efforts taking you in a backward direction. Are you working enough hours to receive the results you want/need for your website? It’s all about dedication, and if you don’t have time to dedicate to making yours website a success, then it might be wise to bring in some “hired guns” that can put the best interests of your website at the top of their list.

Don’t worry – many website owners are running websites as second lines of income – and maybe you’re one of them. The secret is to make sure the work gets done, even if you can’t spare the time to do it all yourself. There are tons of freelance sites out there where you can find everything from programmers to social networkers to article writers – and most of them are working at very (low) competitive rates that fit well within even the most meager budgets.
